St George's Day

Happy St George's Day!

St George is the Patron Saint of many countries and organisations including:
Aragon, Catalonia, Ethiopia, Georgia, Greece, Lithuania, Palestine, Portugal, and Russia.Interestingly, the Patron Saint of England was born in Cappadocia, part of modern day Turkey and didn't ever set foot on English soil.
He became a Roman Soldier and was put to death on 23rd April 303, for refusing to give up Christianity. For more fun facts, go to this website
For the colouring page image, I've taken his characteristics of courage and bravery to be a motto for our strange times of isolation. It's a worrying time for a lot of people. We are all either staying at home to stay safe, or risking personal safety to deliver health care and so many essential services.
So let's face our fears, and stand strong - the reason why Lord Baden Powell chose him to be the patron saint of Scouts. You can read the story of St George found on the Scouts website here
